Trucking HR Canada recently announced the winners of its Top Fleet Employers program, a list that is made of up predominately of OTA and CTA member carriers.

“These 22 fleets demonstrate a broad array of industry best practices,” said Tamara Miller, Trucking HR Canada’s director of programs and services. “Their employees clearly understand performance expectations. Unique initiatives ranged from regular Multicultural Days honoring a fleet’s diverse workforce, to charitable programs that actively engaged employees.”

Fleets of every size were rated on topics including employee recognition, compensation, lifestyle, employee engagement, wellness, professional development, recruitment and retention, according to the group. Related reviews included a comprehensive online application, hard-copy submissions, employee surveys and follow-up interviews.

This year, ratings were also expanded to reflect a fleet’s active involvement in charitable or environmental initiatives, which Trucking HR Canada said are particularly valued by younger “Generation Y” employees.

The 2015 honors were awarded to:

  • Atlantica Diversified Transportation Systems Inc. (ADTS) – New Brunswick
  • Bison Transport – Manitoba
  • Challenger Motor Freight – Ontario
  • DJ Knoll Transport Ltd. – Saskatchewan
  • Drive Logistics – Ontario

“We hope to see an even longer list in the third annual program. There is no limit to the number of fleets that can be recognized,” said Angela Splinter, Chief Executive Officer of Trucking HR Canada. “Not every application is successful, but we encourage every fleet to continue with ongoing investments in human resources practices. It makes business sense, and it will bring you closer to recognition by Top Fleet Employers. Most important, it will help to recruit and retain skilled employees.”
